There's something in these hills that you and I can't define and others can't understand. Your complete insider guide to doing Game Day in Tiger Town like a lifelong fan.
During football season, there is no place like Clemson. No other place that's so wall-to-wall with alumni and fans. No other place where you can find anything — and I mean anything — in orange.
Orange campers roll into town on Thursdays and Fridays. Orange tents are set up pole-to-pole on Saturday mornings. Orange grills are lit, and Clemson-themed drinks are mixed in parking lots and fields across the campus. Orange-clad fans you've never met before will pull up a chair, add some drinks to the cooler, and watch the game with you outside the stadium.
It's a party like nowhere else. And this guide will make sure you're ready for every second of it.
"There's something in these hills that you and I can't define and others can't understand…"

These are premium parking areas located on campus, with assignments determined by your IPTAY donor rank and seating location. They offer the most convenient access to Memorial Stadium.
Ensure your IPTAY pledge is submitted by the June 1 deadline to maintain priority for your parking application.
Various local organizations and businesses offer parking spots for a fee on game days. These are often located within walking distance of the stadium.
Arrive early as these spots are typically first-come, first-served and fill up rapidly before kickoff.
Homeowners in the neighborhoods surrounding the university often open their yards for game day parking. This is a popular, community-driven option for fans.
Bring cash, as many residential parking operators do not accept credit cards or digital payments.
General parking is available in designated areas further from the stadium, often supported by the Tiger Transit shuttle system to transport fans to the game.
Check the Clemson Athletics website for the most current shuttle routes and schedules to avoid delays.
The Post-Game Exit Strategy
Getting out after the game is always an adventure. Some fans slip out of the gate when the game isn't close to beat traffic. The faithful stay until the last second and enjoy the on-field celebration - then wait out the traffic with snacks and lawn games. Have cornhole or KanJam ready for the post-game hang, and you'll barely notice the wait.
Tailgating at Clemson is as elaborate as you want to make it — nobody's judging if your serving dishes are plastic. But if you want to do it right, the menu varies by kickoff time. Here's the insider playbook.

Pro setup
You may see a chandelier hanging from a tent. The answer is yes, that really happens.
The complicated one. Come loaded.
🩸 The Legend: Themed Bloody Marys
Jackie Ellis '83 has a different bloody mary theme for every home game. Garnishes include pimento cheese, chicken nuggets, Wickles, crab legs for the FSU game, pickled okra, celery, and olives. "Really it's like a meal in itself," she says. Set your bar high.
🎪 The Setup Game
Bring cornhole — the old faithful. KanJam, ladder golf, and Mashball are making inroads. Beer-can cornhole combines two old favorites into one dangerous activity. Setups range from folding table with a cooler to a full tent with a dish antenna and big-screen TV. Arrive early, wander around, and steal ideas from the pros.
🍿 Inside the Stadium: 2025 Concessions Map
Updated Sep 2026This map provides the locations of food and beverage vendors throughout Memorial Stadium to help fans navigate concessions on game day.

Downtown Clemson is a relatively easy walk to the stadium. If you're not setting up your own tailgate spread, these classic Clemson dive bars make excellent pre- or post-game perches.

Clemson's oldest bar started as a gas station and grocery in 1933. Located at the corner of Oak Street and Old Greenville Highway — the closest watering hole to the stadium. The lacquered wood bar is made from reclaimed stadium seating. The walls are plastered with Clemson memorabilia.
Must Order
The mac-and-cheese. A crowd favorite that will carry you through an entire game.
The Vibe
Historic landmark. Go early — it gets packed fast.
129 Old Greenville Hwy #1, Clemson, SC 29631
This dimly lit dive bar and pool hall on College Avenue has cemented itself into Clemson lore since 1977. When COVID threatened to shut its doors for good, the community rallied to save it. That says everything about what this place means to Tiger Town.
Must Order
A $2 can of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a basket of wings.
The Vibe
Gritty, soulful, irreplaceable. The real Clemson.
368 College Ave, Clemson, SC 29631
The newest of the three, Loose Change opened on College Avenue's main drag in 2004. The burgers have been named Tiger Town's best. There's a rotating lineup of live music and trivia. Leave your mark: sign a dollar bill and add it to the walls papered with George Washington's face.
Must Order
The burger. Whatever they recommend that day.
The Vibe
Lively, fun, rotating live music. Great pre-game energy.

Tiger Town's Soul
Walls that tell stories. Bars that make them.
Clemson game day is built on rituals. Miss these and you've only seen half the show. Do all of them, and you'll understand exactly what Joe Sherman was talking about.

Tiger Walk
The electricity starts here
Wrap up your tailgate about two hours before game time and head over to Tiger Walk. Coach Dabo Swinney instituted this tradition for his very first game as head coach in 2008. Join the crowd around Lot 5 — the IPTAY lot adjacent to the WestZone — and cheer the team and coaches on as they enter Memorial Stadium.
This is where you'll see your favorite player dressed to the nines, walking past thousands of fans who are absolutely losing their minds. The energy is unlike anything you've experienced.
After Tiger Walk, head over to the outdoor amphitheater for Tiger Band's "90 Minutes Before Kickoff" concert and pep rally. Enjoy classics like "Tiger Rag" and "Eye of the Tiger" plus halftime show highlights — before the band makes its traditional march down Fort Hill Street to Memorial Stadium.
In town on Friday afternoon? Join the Tiger Band Kidz Klub at 5 PM on the band practice field. Free, family-friendly, and a genuinely wonderful memory for young fans.
Clemson has been producing its own ice cream since 1899. The creamery at Newman Hall is an institution, and on game day it draws lines that stretch out the door. The flavors change seasonally, but "Tiger Stripe" — a vanilla and chocolate swirl — is the essential Clemson experience.
Lines get long fast on game day. Go before 11 AM or plan to wait — but it's worth every minute. This is one of those things you have to do at least once.
Whatever else happens during your Clemson game day, be in your seat — or standing room — for what's been called the most exciting 25 seconds in college football. The gates open two hours before kickoff. When the team runs down the hill into Memorial Stadium, the roar of 80,000 fans is something you will never forget.
Clear bag policy is in effect. Bags larger than 6.5 inches require a clear tote — grab one at downtown stores. In a pinch, a gallon zip-close bag works (slap a Tiger Paw sticker on it for style points).

The Spirit of Clemson
Tiger Band: 80,000 voices united in one roar.

The game is just part of it. Here's how to make the most of the full Clemson weekend — lodging, logistics, and the one checklist you actually need.
Clemson is a true small town when it's not football season. Hotels close to campus require a 3-night minimum for home games and sell out months in advance at a premium. Plan as far ahead as possible.
Fans often book in nearby Anderson, Seneca, or Greenville — all within easy driving distance — to avoid the premium pricing and availability squeeze around campus.
Neighboring Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee are extremely popular for home rentals on game weekends. Stay on the water, boat to the tailgate — the Clemson experience extends well beyond the stadium.
The campus sits at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains foothills. The region around Clemson is stunning in fall — combine a game weekend with a scenic drive through the mountains for a complete South Carolina experience.
IPTAY Parking Pass (or a plan)
Know your lot before you arrive. IPTAY lots open at 6 AM for noon games, 8 AM for all others.
Clear bag — exact size matters
Max 12"×6"×12" clear tote, or a 1-gallon Ziploc. Clutch bags max 4.5"×6.5". No exceptions.
Mobile tickets saved to Wallet
Add to Apple Wallet or Google Pay before leaving home — no screenshots, no PDFs. Cell signal at the stadium is unreliable.
Arrive early — gates open 2 hrs prior
Veteran tailgaters are set up 4+ hours before kickoff. Don't be the person rushing at kickoff.
Orange. All of it.
You will stand out if you don't — in the best or worst way.
One clear, unopened water bottle
One sealed water bottle per person is allowed in. $3 water is also available at concessions.
Cash for parking
Many church and homeowner lots are cash-only. ATMs are NOT inside the stadium.
Sunscreen + layers
September/October are hot. Night games in November are cold. Clemson doesn't do mild.
Cornhole / lawn game
Essential for the post-game wait while traffic clears — plan to hang out 30–60 mins.
No drones
Drone flight is illegal within 1 hour of kickoff near campus. Leave it at home.
There's no first-time Clemson experience. Only a first time, and then a lifetime of coming back.
